Cantilever scaffolding is used when conventional scaffold standards cannot be placed at ground level — due to underground services, obstructions, shopfronts, vehicle access requirements or public right of way restrictions. Instead of rising from the ground, a cantilever scaffold is supported from above — anchored to the structure or to a higher scaffold — with the working platform projecting outwards.
